Rectangular snuffbox with angled corners in sculpted gold and opaque, sky blue enamel. The enamel is highlighted with delicate gold foil. The hinged lid is embellished with an enamel medallion painted with a group of children playing in a pastoral landscape. The border of the snuffbox is decorated with a frieze of flowers and gold that highlights the translucent enamel. The body of the box features four enamel panels framed with a floral motif, and the angled corners display a gold “Athenian” or brazier for offerings. The style of this childhood scene recalls the work of the painter Jean-François Richter, a Genevan painter who worked on enamel.
