Additional information

Enameled gold needle case decorated with angled sections and medallions set in a detailed latticework background. The lower two of the four octagonal medallions portray women: one with a pink dress carrying a basket of flowers, and on the other side, a young woman in a purple dress carrying a ewer. The medallions on the upper portion of the case show, on the one side, a basket of flowers with doves, and on the other side, a quiver with doves. These two medallions symbolize Cupid and Hymen. The gold latticework of the background highlights the black enamel, and the entirety is covered with translucent enamel. The angled sides of the case are embellished with laurel friezes and accented with enamel. Swiss craftsmanship from the end of the 18th century.
