Additional information

Cylindrical case for holding wax in yellow, pink, and green gold. The case is embellished with four oval medallions set over an intricately striped background that is interspersed with stars. The medallions on the lower part of the case are decorated with torches, symbolizing Hymen. On the other side, the medallions portray a quiver, symbolizing Cupid. These medallions are framed in roses and foliage on matte background. The upper section of the case also features two medallions: one portrays a musette and laurels and the other, a hat and a rake. The upper part is topped with a dome embellished with acanthus leaves. The four panels containing the medallions are framed in thin braids of colored gold on a matte background. The base of the case is flat so that it can be engraved and serve as a seal. This type of case was used to store a stick of wax that would be melted and then pressed to create seals. The case still has its coat of arms featuring a crowned shield held between a griffon and a lion. Work from the Louis XVI period.
