Alternate Text

Unusual rooster-shaped trinket bowl in silver and Vienna enamel. The rooster has a silver head and feet and enamel eyes, beak, and crest. Two mythological scenes inspired by the life of Bacchus decorate the body. On one side, “Mercury Confides Bacchus to Nymphs,” and on the other, a festive scene with a Bacchus child holding a cup, surrounded by nymphs and satyrs. On the inside is the scene “Andromeda Attached to the Rock by Nereids,” who is being attacked by a sea monster and saved by Perseus, and a second scene inspired by the adventures of ancient gods. On the base, two medallions represent characters in a landscape. On the bottom of the base is a landscape with antique ruins. All of the scenes are overlaid on a richly decorated background which blends “grotesque” and a flowery rinceau. Dim: W: 3,7 in – D: 6,7in – H: 9,1in. Second part of the 19th century. Price: 10000€ REF: 5538
