Oval miniature on ivory featuring the half-portrait of a young woman in a blue dress tied at the waist with a blue ribbon. The voluminous “mutton chop” sleeves are reminiscent of 16th century fashion. The young woman is wearing a jewelry set composed of a gold belt buckle, a hexagonal brooch with a cameo that holds a delicate lace wrap in place at her neckline, and a pair of pendant earrings. Her hair is pulled back into a braided bun, leaving her oval face fully visible. She is set in front of a monochrome, green-gray background. Rectangular, wood veneer frame rimmed with brass embellished with palmettes. A domed glass protects the portrait. The frame has been varnished.
