Additional information

Gold case with two compartments. Each compartment is covered with a hinged lid decorated with intricate geometric patterns and covered with translucent, royal blue enamel that leaves the pattern underneath visible. The enamel is embellished with enameled rose and daisy motifs. One of the compartments features an engraved monogram, and the other houses a circular miniature on ivory with the portrait of an upper-class woman from the late 18th century. This portrait was inspired by a portrait of Marie-Antoinette painted by Madame Vigée Lebrun. The same geometric pattern from the cover is repeated on the sides of the box. Some wear and traces of tin inside.

This box, judging by its format, was most likely used as a toiletry accessory. It may have contained tongue scrapers, picks, small brushes, or any other hygiene article in use during the late 18th and early 20th centuries.
