A gold and musical rectangular pocket-fitting form snuff-box The snuff-box is lobed on top and base. The sides are chased with foliate scrolls on matted ground. There ise a double compartments, one of which contains the musical movement. his type of snuffbox was characteristic of Swiss production. The music boxes with cylinder appear at the end of the 18th century in Switzerland with the movements of Antoine Favre. At the beginning of the 19th century Isaac Piguet perfected these movements and miniaturized them.
Alexandre Magnin ( goldsmith) was a jeweler around 1825 (Geneva 1786-1830). He used this hallmark for the first time around 1812, before having to register it again around November 23, 1815 (by mistake under the name of André). He died in 1830.
