Additional information

A cylindrical, double-ended transparent crystal perfume bottle with one side  a fine vinaigrette and the other a smelling salt compartiment. The vinaigrette opens a pierced grid still containing its sponge soaked in flavored vinegar. The gold setting is finely chiseled with a guilloché pattern of parallel and semi-pea streaks. One of the caps is engraved with a monogram. Victorian ladies often carried their chosen perfume with them, and many scent bottles were designed as jewelry pieces.  The practice of wearing tight corsets also regularly caused women to faint, so they also had to carry smelling salts with them. This led to the double-ended perfume bottles to be created, which would contain perfume on one side and smelling salts on the other. The goldsmith is illegible. Circa 1860-1870.
