Rectangular micromosaic brooch. The micromosaic presents a spaniel lying in a landscape. This composition is by artist Antonio Aguatti. This motif of a dog was a very popular subject. It was often brought back by European travelers visiting Rome during the beginning of the 19th century. The Aguatti workshop gained notoriety through its pieces that highlighted dogs in its compositions.. The frame is in gold or cannetille. This art was known to the Etruscans and brought back into fashion in the first half of the 19th century by Italian silversmiths. Italian work from the 19th century. Circa 1830-1840.
