Large circular box in tortoiseshell and gold. The removable lid is decorated with a miniature on ivory depicting young woman set in front of a landscape. The quality of the miniature is excellent: she wears a white lace dress and a small black lace jacket and white lace. Her set includes a coral comb that stands out in her brown hair, a headband at the forehead, a coral cross and necklace, and a belt buckle. This costume is characteristic of the years 1815-1820. It is signed Cior.
Pierre Charles Cior (1769-1838) is a miniaturist from the end of the 18th century, the beginning of the 19th century who was a student of Bazil. He exhibited in several Salons. He was the miniaturist of European courts such as those of the King of Spain or the Tsar of Russia, Paul I. In France, he worked for several personalities including Louis XVIII and Louis-Philippe.
