A pair of gilt bronze and patinated candlesticks. Each candelstisck in form of cariatyd in patinated bronze, presents a caryatid with bare chest and chiton; draped skirt; held at the waist by a gilded belt. Each caryatid raises its chiton revealing their bare feet. Thin golden bracelets chiselled with Greek motifs adorn their arms. On the head, a tassled cushion supports a bobeche chiselled with palmettes. The base is decorated with friezes of lotus and stylised palmettes.
Early 19th century work. Circa 1815-1820
