Additional information

Gold and enamel needle case decorated with four oval medallions. The lower portion of the case has two medallions: on one side, a young man in a brown jacket and blue pants is leaning against a rock, and on the other side, a young woman in a white dress is carrying a basket of flowers. These themes are repeated in the medallions on the top of the case. The medallions are framed in a frieze of gold, stylized flowers and set on a translucent, royal blue background. Other motifs of garlands, flowers, and doves accent the blue background, and a row of pearls separates the upper and lower portions of the case. Swiss work, Geneva, circa 1795.
