Brooch with a micromosaic set in a gold and royal blue enameled gold setting. Rectangular micromosaic on black onyx representing a spaniel lying in the grass. This composition is by artist Antonio Aguatti. This motif of a dog was a very popular subject. It was often brought back by European travelers visiting Rome during the beginning of the 19th century.
By the comma and semicircle shape of the tesserae, this micromosaic dates from the years 1830-1840.
