Rectangular music box in gilded brass and polychrome enamel.The music box is adorned on the sides with translucent blue enamel panels and medallions depicting representing an alpine lakescape with medieval castles.The lid is decorated with a scene depicting shepherds in a landscape in the taste of the 18th century.The lid opening to reveal a small turquoise-feathered singing bird with beak rising from a pierced oval grille. The mechanism is activated by a push button on the side.Under the background, the case is stamped with Griesbaum's mark. K.G for Karl Griesbaum.
The Griesbaum company was founded in 1905 in the town of Triberg, Schwarz Wald (Black Forest), Germany. Its founder Karl Griesbaum was born in 1872 and founded an automaton company specializing in songbirds.
