Additional information

Circular box in blonde tortoiseshell inlaid with a scattering of stars and gold ‘piqué clouté’ dots. It is encircled by gold frames on all its edges featuring chiselled leaf motifs. The separate lid is decorated with a miniature on ivory depicting a scene of villagers dancing and playing music in the style of Flemish paintings.
Eye of discharge hallmark used from 1783 to 1789 under "fermier general" Henry Clavel.
Some flaking wear.
