Secret Snuffbox, two erotic miniatures, 19th century

Materials: silver, mother in pearl, ivory.

Silver hallmark: Charençon for imported works.
Rectangular box with double bottom in silver, mother-of-pearl and miniature on ivory. The box is decorated with two plates of mother-of-pearl or burgau finely engraved with motifs of fruits, flowers and birds. The boat is engraved with geometric motifs. The box has two hinges opening on two compartments. In one of the compartments, on the back of the lid is set an ivory miniature representing a fauna approaching a young woman. The bottom of this compartment has a burgau marquetry. In the other compartment, the back of the lid presents a couple embraced in a bucolic landscape and surprised by a putti.
