Additional information

Large miniature on ivory depicting a young woman standing on a balustrade. She wears a costume with a green velvet surcoat trimmed with ermine and a white dress. The description of the costume highlights the half-parure composed of a jewel of corsage in gold and emerald and a tiara in gold and emeralds decorated with fleurons. This young woman presented in foot rests on a balustrade opening on a garden. The balustrade is decorated with neo-gothic motifs representing Gothic arcades and florets.Gilded brass frame.
With Romanticism is developed a return to the style of the Middle Ages or neogothic style. The neogothic style touches all the arts including literature with the publication of Notre Dame de Paris by V. Hugo and the Tower of Nesle by A. Dumas. In France, the Duchess of Berry was the instigator of the cathedral style around 1820.
